The Gift that Keeps on Giving

This leads us to a bigger picture – how else you can communicate your emotions without even holding an instant conversation? Rewards! We did mention previously that its important to integrate our senses of touch and smell in our gifts, but that’s not the whole story. In fact, gifts don’t have to be super expensive nor gender normative. As long as these gifts appeal to your partners’ interests and needs while not undermining your own abilities to gift, you can make their days feel a whole lot brighter despite the physical distance. We also recommend personal tokens of appreciation that remind the two of you that you are a couple. Now, it doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy an engagement ring that costs a fortune – especially if you both aren’t ready to take that step! – but small couple sets such as hoodies, hats, lockets with pictures, matching bracelets and necklaces, even home décor related gifts such as mugs and picture frames where you are both featured are more thoughtful. But even the gifts might be too unattainable due to shipping problems and high expenditures. Worry not! You can always remember to write a thought-out letter to them. It might not seem like great idea to discuss a serious problem through these, especially in our time of instant access to our partners, but research shows that despite the video chats, couples experienced higher levels of appreciation, connection and thoughtfulness behind small cards and letters that served as reminders that these partners were thought about often. These increase a level of intimacy, increase romance, and due to the fact of their rare use – add a personal touch and can serve as a great surprise!
